Mages are not necessarily adept at ventriloquism, but illusion
is one of the basic schools. This minor spell allows the caster
to create a double illusion: the visual component makes his lips
appear shut while he speaks; the aural component makes their voice
seem to come from a different point in the vicinity. The mage must
still be a somewhat adept actor, to modify his voice. Those in
the vicinity may notice that the voice is being thrown, but unless
they recognize the mage's voice, they will now know who did it.
This is due to the well-known fact that visual illusions are stronger
than those linked to other senses (cf. Heraclitus Sargantis 'Art
Luminis', MTP)
