This spell works in a very similar fashion to blindness. Some studies
claim that it is actually the same spell with a different target. The
silence hex uses earthpower, with a minor amount of water, to gag its
target. A gagged target cannot speak in any way, which also makes it
impossible for them to cast spells, recite scrolls, and use any verbal
magic. Of course, there is nothing to prevent them from quaffing potions
or using wands. Some targets may be immune to this spell, specially those
with multiple voice organs.
