Your hit points are a measure of how wounded you are.  When&lt;br /&gt;
they reach zero, you fall unconscious and start bleeding to&lt;br /&gt;
death.  Above zero hit points (also called &amp;quot;hp&amp;quot;), the wounds&lt;br /&gt;
have no impact on your ability to function.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Your hp are visible in your status bar (see &amp;quot;help status&amp;quot;)&lt;br /&gt;
along with mana and movement.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The passage of time heals hp damage, especially if you are&lt;br /&gt;
sleeping or resting.  Your hp will heal up to some maximum&lt;br /&gt;
value which increases as you get tougher (that is, as you&lt;br /&gt;
gain levels).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Healing magic (the type specialized in by the cleric class)&lt;br /&gt;
can restore your hit points rapidly in exchange for the &lt;br /&gt;
caster's mana points.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There are conditions such as poison or disease which may&lt;br /&gt;
prevent normal healing or indeed cause nasty symptoms to&lt;br /&gt;
accumulate as time passes even if you are sleeping.&lt;br /&gt;
