A wandering adventurer while passing through the Valley of the Great Old Ones stumbled upon the entrance to the Castle R'lyeh while trying to escape from some spectral guardians. Unfortunately for him the spectral guardian found him hiding and now he too is a spectral being roaming the hallways.
